Seed Treatment

Mar 20, 2025

Your crop has the most yield potential as a seed inside the bag, long before it ever gets planted. Seedlings are bombarded with diseases, insects, and nematodes that affect the stand establishment and vigor. Finding a seed treatment to combat these issues is crucial to getting soybeans a healthy start and protecting your seed investment.
The most common type of soybean seed treatment is fungicide. There are also insecticides, nematicides, and inoculants. There are times when one seed treatment can help with 2 or more issues.
Fungicides are used to protect your seedling from exposure to soil-borne pathogens. Examples of these diseases include Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, Pythium, and Phytophthora. Conditions that promote diseases are usually wet and/or poorly drained soils. Soil temperatures are what usually decide which pathogens we’re dealing with. Cold and wet soil will have spikes in Fusarium and Pythium. Warm and wet can result in Phytophthora and Rhizoctonia. A seed treatment that Belgrade Coop carries to help protect soybean seed and seedlings from diseases is Warden CX 2. Warden CX 2 contains four fungicides to fight off early season diseases and also includes Cruiser insecticide, which can help with early season pests.
If Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) or Soybean Cyst Nematode (SCN) is your biggest concern, we would highly recommend Saltro. Saltro is a fungicide that also offers some SCN protection. Unfortunately, it won’t completely resolve SCN problems for the duration of the summer; SCN has multiple generations in a single growing season, however Saltro can help protect the seedling from the first couple of generations. SDS has also been a growing concern in our area in the past two years. Count on Saltro to have partial control of SCN and provide immense control of SDS.
Inoculants are used to help soybean plants promote healthy root nodulation and nitrogen fixation. Inoculants don’t protect your seed from any pests, but they help take the plant to the next level of production. The inoculant we recommend is LAL Fix Proyield.
“What if I use seed treatments and I don’t see a positive response in yield?” I’m so glad you asked!
Belgrade Coop is partnering with WinField and will be offering our Impact RX program for our soybean seed and soybean seed treatments. We believe that with a seed treatment and a micronutrient foliar application, soybeans can outyield what is listed as your Approved Yield on crop insurance forms. If yields are lower than your approved yield, Belgrade Coop can facilitate a Warranty payment of $20/acre through Winfield.
f you have any specific questions regarding the Impact RX warranty program or our seed treatments, please reach out to one of our agronomists.
